Ciprofloxacin HCl
Indications/Uses
Corneal ulcers & bacterial conjunctivitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Corneal ulcers 1st day: Instill 2 drops in affected eye every 15 min for 1st 6 hr then every 30 min for the remainder of 1st day. 2nd day: Instill 2 drops in affected eye hrly. 3rd-14th day: Instill 2 drops in affected eye every 4 hr. Bacterial conjunctivitis Instill 1-2 drops into conjunctival sac every 2 hr while awake for 2 days then 1-2 drops every 4 hr while awake for next 5 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if skin rash appears. Hypersensitivity. Overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms; superinfection. Contact lens users. Prolonged use. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reaction; local burning & discomfort, lid margin crusting, edema, crystals/scales, foreign body sensation, itching, conjunctival hyperemia, corneal staining & infiltrates, keratophy/keratitis, tearing, photophobia, decreased vision; bad taste, nausea.
Drug Interactions
Elevated plasma conc of theophylline. Interfered caffeine metabolism. Enhanced effects of oral anticoagulants eg, warfarin & derivatives. Transient serum creatinine elevations w/ cyclosporine.
